Strong Storms Continue

An area of rain coming in from Missouri will bring us a chance of storms as early as this morning. A better chance will move in with a cold front this afternoon. Like yesterday, storms will start off isolated, then forming into a line as they move east. These could be strong to severe, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threat. And we can never rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado. Highs today will be warm and muggy in the upper 70s and low 80s. Rain chances continue overnight with lows dropping into the mid 60s. We'll see a period of drying Saturday morning, but then the same slow moving cold front will pop up another line of storms in the afternoon. The eastern most counties in our viewing area have the best chance at seeing severe weather. Sunday is looking dry, but cooler with highs near 70 degrees. We'll stay clear and cool into early next week as well. Cloud cover returns as temperatures warm during the middle of next week. By Thursday and Friday storm chances return to the forecast.

Storms Return to the Forecast

A slow moving low pressure system will bring storm chances into the weekend. We'll start off sunny today, looking warm and muggy with highs in the low to mid 80s this afternoon.

Scattered storms will begin firing by this evening, then a line of strong storms is possible into the overnight. Lows will only drop back into the mid 60s.

Some clearing is possible Friday morning, but that will just increase instability, heat, and the chance of severe storms Friday afternoon and night. Damaging winds will be the primary threat as a line of storms pulls from west to east.

Storm chances continue into Saturday, keeping the threat of flooding into the weekend. The three days of rain could bring totals between 2-3".

We'll begin drying things out Saturday night and into Sunday. Much cooler highs will filter in on the back side of this system, only reaching the low 70s Sunday through Tuesday. Though we'll start off next week with sunshine, rain chances will be back by Thursday and Friday.

Strong Storms Possible Tonight

Central Illinois is under a slight risk for severe storms Tuesday evening.  The primary threats will be damaging winds, with some hail.  Flash flooding will be another concern with the potential for heavy rain with storms rolling in tonight, adding to the already very saturated ground from the holiday weekend.

TIMETABLE:  Isolated storms will develop during the early evening.  Line of storms will push through the area during the overnight hours.

Flooding remains a concern for the short and long term.  Longer range models continue to pump out rain through the remainder of the work week.

More Storms Today

A line of strong storms is moving through early today. More storms will fire near a warm front in the north this afternoon. Southerly winds will supply moisture and instability, bringing a threat of severe weather. The initial isolated storms will bring a threat of large hail. As the storms form into a line, we'll switch to more of a damaging wind threat. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH remains in effect until 7 pm tonight because we could see between 1-3" of rain over the next 18 hours. Highs today will warm into the upper 70s and low 80s. The rain will move east overnight, allowing for some drying into Wednesday. We could see a few scattered showers tomorrow, but most of us will stay dry with highs warming into the mid 80s. Another low pressure system will move in by the end of the week. We're looking at storm chances Thursday through Saturday night. With highs in the low 80s, expect more strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall. Skies will clear early next week, but highs will only warm into the mid to upper 70s Sunday through Tuesday.

Stormy Pattern Continues

Stormy Pattern Continues

Stormy pattern continues into the overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for much of Central Illinois tonight.

Previous model runs in decent agreement for scattered T-storms overnight tonight, some of which could be severe at times with gusty winds up to 70 mph and half inch size hail being the primary threat.

More showers and storms continue into Tuesday, again with a slight risk for T-storms.

Main concerns for the next few days of rain is flash flooding.
Several inches of rain has fell across CI, anywhere from .25" to upwards of 4" in some areas.
Since there hasn't been much dry time for the ground, new rain showers will become runoff off water and stand on roadways and low lying areas.

Areas along the Illinois River should pay close attention to river levels for sudden flash flooding. Historic flooding isn't anticipated but warning shouldn't be taken lightly.

Temperature wise, we stay in the upper 70's and low 80's for much of the week. Could see a nice spike in temperatures on Wednesday in the mid to upper 80's.

Flash Flooding This Memorial Day

After a stormy weekend, saturated ground continues to be inundated by more rain early this week. Along with several FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS, a FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect until Tuesday morning. A round of rain will move through this morning, before the potential for clearing during the middle of the day. If we see some sun, instability and heat will increase enough to see strong to severe storms to redevelop by tonight. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threat. A warm front pulling north will help warm highs into the low to mid 70s.

Storm chances continue with lows in the mid 60s overnight. Much of Tuesday will be dry, but storm chances return by tomorrow night. The potential for severe storms sticks around in our northern half, with large hail and damaging winds once again a possibility.

Highs will warm into the low to mid 80s. Wednesday will finally bring some drying as highs warm into the mid to upper 80s. However, storm chances will be back late Wednesday night, lasting all the way into Saturday. We could see some heavy rain fall and strong storms as highs remain in the low 80s. Skies will clear as we head into early next week, but temperatures are looking cooler in the mid to upper 70s.

Memorial Day Forecast

Showers & T-storms stay in the forecast for tonight and overnight.

A stationary-boundary over northern Missouri is helping storms fire up ahead of the line.

Temps tonight looks to be above average by a handful of degrees, Peoria - 60° B/N - 61°.

Memorial Day is filled with more chances for showers and storms.
Mid-morning should be predominately dry but after 12PM, redevelopment of storms poses a threat to the area, will put a 80% chance for showers through tomorrow.

QPF models putting out an additional .5"-1"+ of rainfall from Monday's storms.
If rain is persistent enough, flood watches could be issued.

Rainy pattern looks to continue through the week.

Cooler End to the Week

We're finally on the back side of the low pressure system from the past few days. However, we're still starting things off soggy this morning, with light rain, fog, haze, and mist. A passing cold front will dry us out this afternoon, allowing for clearing overnight. Highs today will only reach the low to mid 60s. Overnight lows will drop all the way back into the low 40s. Friday is looking clear, but cool. Temperatures tomorrow will only reach the upper 60s. Cloud cover returns this weekend, with highs warming into the low 70s. Storm chances return Saturday night, lasting us into early next week. An unsettled upper level weather pattern will pop up afternoon and evening storms Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of next week. Sunny Today, Storms Tonight

Last night's strong storms are moving out as some sunshine builds in for today. We're looking partly cloudy, warm and muggy this afternoon with highs in the low 80s. More storms will begin building in this afternoon, some of which could be strong to severe in our southeastern most counties. Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats. Storms continue overnight and into Wednesday. They will begin decreasing in strength into the middle of the week. A few showers may linger into Thursday, before we clear things out on Friday. A cool high pressure system settling in will keep highs at the end of the week in the upper 60s and low 70s. We'll warm slightly into the weekend, but another storm system will bring a chance of rain as early as Saturday night. Storm chances continue into Sunday and Monday. Southerly winds will bump highs into the low 80s as we dry things out into Tuesday of next week.

Severe Storms Early This Week

A very large low pressure system will slowly churn east early this week, bringing strong to severe thunderstorm chances through at least Tuesday. We'll start off with a few showers this morning, before partly cloudy skies warm us into the mid to upper 80s by early this afternoon.

The late afternoon and early evening hours will see those strong storms building in. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threat, but we can't rule out an isolated tornado.

Storms continue overnight, only allowing lows to drop into the mid to upper 60s. We could see more strong to severe storms during the day on Tuesday, but the outlook will be based on how much we drain the atmosphere of resources today. Rain continues into Wednesday as well, but dropping temperatures will limit thunderstorm activity. Sunshine will move in for the end of the week. Highs will only reach the upper 60s and low 70s through Friday. Another storm system looks to build in for Sunday and Monday, as southerly winds warm highs back into the low 80s.

Showers Thinning Out

Showers Thinning Out

Off and on showers have been the main focus for tonight.
A Cut-off low pressure system is sagging across southern Midwest bringing wrap around showers
into CI.

Most of the energy to fuel showers will fizzle out overnight and stay down to the south.

Still can't rule out an overnight showers or two and again early morning Sunday otherwise, Sunday's
clouds begin to thin out in the morning hours and set CI up for a mostly clear afternoon!

Temperatures Sunday look to be a degree or two below normal but winds out of the NE teamed up with sunshine will help keep things nice!

Pretty nice for the first half of the work week but another bout of rain sneaks in late Wednesday night and lasts through the weekend.

Friday, May 3, 2013

Widespread Rain

A slow moving low pressure system will bring light to moderate showers all day. Highs will only reach the upper 50s this afternoon. Expect slightly warmer highs in the southeast. Cloud cover and rain stick around overnight, keeping temperatures steady in the low to mid 50s. The low pressure system will take a southward turn on Saturday, lightening up our shower activity. However, we're still looking for scattered rain into Sunday. We'll see about 1-2" of rain widespread.

Highs this weekend will warm into the low to mid 60s. Conditions will begin drying out early next week, with sunshine warming highs into the low to mid 70s through Wednesday. The end of the week will bring highs in the mid 70s, but we're tracking another storm system that could bring rain back to the area.
