NOAA
has updated the winter weather outlook, stressing less of an El Nino
influence than previously foretasted. What this means for us in central
Illinois is not much change in the forecast. An equal chance of
above/below/near normal prec
ip and temps.
While it is unclear what type of winter we will see, we can make an
educated guess. This winter should be more harsh than last winter.
That's an easy guess, based on the fact that we only received 11.2" of
snow, which is 46% of the normal annual snowfall for a year. Our
average accumulation should be right around 25". While it remains to be
seen if it could come in a few big storms, or many small snowfalls, the
feeling is more confident that it should be a much more "traditional"
winter than last year.
