Warm Weekend On The Way!

Central Illinois has enjoyed mostly sunny skies for a good chunk of our Friday.  A few clouds are working in from the west which will settle in this evening.  Temperatures are feeling great today, with mid afternoon temps in the mid 50's!

This evening, clouds will continue to build.  Temperature will also stay relatively mild.  Fog development will be an issue has we head into the overnight hours, which could last through late morning Saturday.

Saturday temperatures will be well above average for the start of  December.  We should be well into the 50's by mid-day, and highs could touch near 60 by the afternoon!

A weak upper level disturbance will move through the region late Saturday night, sparking a few isolated showers across the area into the late evening hours.

A cold front will move in for Monday night, sparking showers & storms.  It will also bring an end to the very mild temperatures.

Warm Weekend Ahead

A wave of upper level energy will keep partly cloudy skies around this afternoon. Southerly winds will still be able to bump highs into the low to mid 50s. Some clearing overnight and increased low level moisture could allow for areas of fog early Saturday morning. We'll struggle to clear out tomorrow afternoon, but the warm up continues into the weekend. Highs will hit the upper 50s and low 60s Saturday and Sunday. An upper level low pressure system will move through late Saturday night bringing a chance at light rain into early Sunday. Drying is expected by Sunday night. Monday will bring highs in the mid 60s before a cold front changes things that night. We'll see a chance at showers and thunderstorms into early Tuesday with much cooler air into the middle of next week. Highs Tuesday will be near 50, but Wednesday and Thursday will only reach the low to mid 40s. After a few dry days, another cold front next Friday will bring a chance of rain. We're looking at another drop in temperatures behind that with highs next weekend in the upper 30s and low 40s.

Mild Weekend In Store

Central Illinois continues to see milder temperatures for the end of the week.  The warmer temperature will continue to surge into the state over the next few days.

Right now temperatures are in the 50's across all of central Illinois.  Clouds will stay in place overnight, and with a southerly wind, lows tonight shouldn't be quite as chilly as we have seen for much of the week.

Highs on Friday will again top out in the low to mid 50's across the area.  Very warm air mass will work into the region for the weekend, sending us well above average for Saturday and Sunday.  Highs should be around 60 for both weekend days.  We will a slight chance for rain late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

Warm Up Continues

Southerly winds and sunshine will warm us into the upper 40s and low 50s this afternoon. Cloud cover will increase during the evening and overnight hours keeping lows mild in the mid 30s.

Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy, but highs will still reach the low to mid 50s. The weekend will keep the cloud cover around as a weak low pressure system brings a chance of rain Saturday night. Still, southerly winds keep pumping in the warmth, bumping highs into the upper 50s and low 60s through Sunday.

Monday will be the warmest of the week with highs in the low to mid 60s. A cold front on Monday night will end our unseasonably warm temperatures. We're looking at a line of overnight showers and temperatures in the 40s on Tuesday. Sunshine returns next Wednesday and Thursday, but so do below average temperatures. Highs for the middle of next week will only reach the upper 30s and low 40s. Another cold front next Friday will bring another chance of rain.

Warming Trend Begins

Sunshine and building southerly winds will help warm us into the low to mid 40s today.

With a few high clouds, overnight lows will only drop back into the mid to upper 20s. Thursday will be sunny and even warmer. Highs tomorrow will hit the upper 40s and low 50s. Cloud cover will increase on Friday, but temperatures will continue to warm. Look for low to mid 50s through Saturday. A quick wave of upper level energy will bring a chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday. Still, strong southerly winds will continue the warm up into the low 60s through Monday. A powerful cold front will change things up next Tuesday. We'll see a good chance at a line of heavy showers during the day followed by a push of cold air into the middle of next week. Highs for Wednesday and Thursday will only reach the upper 30s and low 40s.

Cool Again Today

Clear skies and calm winds dropped temperatures into the teens overnight. We'll take sunshine into the afternoon, but highs today will only reach the mid 30s. Look for partly cloudy skies and lows in the low 20s overnight.

Sunshine and southerly winds will start us on a warm up Wednesday. Highs will reach the low 40s tomorrow and the upper 40s on Thursday. Cloud cover returns by the end of the week with an unsettled upper level weather pattern. Widely scattered showers are possible with waves of upper level energy starting on Friday and lasting us through the weekend. Rain will be light and sporadic at best. Temperatures continue to warm into early next week. Highs will reach the mid to upper 50s Saturday and Sunday with low 60s possible next Monday. The warm up is ahead of a storm system next Tuesday. A cold front moving through will bring a good chance at rain and much cooler temperatures into the middle of next week.

Cool Start to the Week

Northerly winds and cloud cover will keep temperatures cool to start off the work week. Highs today and tomorrow will only reach the mid to upper 30s. A quick wave of upper level energy moving in from the west and northwest today could bring a few flurries through central Illinois. High pressure will quickly follow on Tuesday to bring back the sun into the middle of the week. Behind a weak cold front Tuesday night, winds will switch out of the south on Wednesday. Temperatures will slowly warm into the upper 40s by the end of the week. Cloud cover returns with an unsettled upper level weather pattern for Friday and the weekend. We'll be warm Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 50s, but scattered showers are possible into early next week.

Mild Thanksgiving; Some Rain Possible

Fog has finally burned off across central Illinois leaving much of the area with mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures remain cool where it took a while for the fog to lift.  Areas that have seen sunshine for a few hours are now into the lower 60's

Skies will remain clear during the evening and overnight hours.  Winds will begin to pick up as well, so fog will not be a concern overnight.  Lows fall to the lower 40's, a good 10 degrees above the average low for this time of year.

Mild temperatures will continue for one more day, as highs surge to the mid to upper 60's across central Illinois.  Winds will continue to increase as we head into the afternoon.

A cold front will push through the region Thursday night, sparking a few scattered showers across the region.   The rain will be light and very much hit or miss through the evening hours.  Once the cold front moves through, much cooler temperatures will settle in for Friday and the rest of the weekend.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Winter Outlook Updated

NOAA has updated the winter weather outlook, stressing less of an El Nino influence than previously foretasted. What this means for us in central Illinois is not much change in the forecast. An equal chance of above/below/near normal prec
ip and temps. While it is unclear what type of winter we will see, we can make an educated guess. This winter should be more harsh than last winter. That's an easy guess, based on the fact that we only received 11.2" of snow, which is 46% of the normal annual snowfall for a year. Our average accumulation should be right around 25". While it remains to be seen if it could come in a few big storms, or many small snowfalls, the feeling is more confident that it should be a much more "traditional" winter than last year.

Cool & Quiet

After a warm end to the weekend, temperatures have taken a dive for much of the week, but we are seeing slow, but gradual improvement.  Today we made it back to the upper 40's, just a few degrees shy of where we should be for this time of year.

Lows tonight will again be chilly, but should stay in the 30's area wide.  A return to near normal temperatures should begin tomorrow, with highs in the lower 50's for Friday.

The slow rise in temperatures doesn't stop this week.  By the weekend, we should be slightly above average, with highs on Saturday and Sunday topping out in the mid 50's.
