Easter Weekend Forecast

Easter Weekend Forecast

Near normal temperatures for Friday. Today's average high is 54° and that's where they are at 2PM, might be able to squeeze another degree or two out of the day.

Tonight will be calm and quiet. Temperatures near normal. Winds rather calm as well.

Saturday's temps will be in the mid 50's again but clouds start building in through mid morning. Chance for rain showers increase after mid-day. Not a wash-out by any means but scattered throughout CI.

Rain end in pre-dawn hours of Easter Sunday and I believe we'll be dry through the day.

Cold front pushes through overnight Sunday into Monday bringing rain at first then a mixture early Monday morning.

Mild Easter Weekend

After a few clouds break apart this morning, we're looking sunny this afternoon. Temperatures will finally warm back to normal for this time of year, reaching the mid 50s this afternoon. A few clouds overnight will keep lows in the mid 30s. Cloud cover will increase on Saturday as a low pressure system builds into the area. Highs will still be mild, though, as southerly winds warm us into the upper 50s. As a cold front passes through late Saturday evening into Sunday morning, we'll work in a quick line of showers. The rain will likely move out on Sunday morning, clearing things out for Easter afternoon.

Temperatures will stay in the mid 50s on Sunday, but a strong cold front into Monday morning will bring a quick chance of wintry mix and much cooler temperatures for early next week. Highs will only reach the upper 30s and low 40s through Tuesday. Skies will clear into the middle of next week, with temperatures steadily warming into next weekend.

Warming Trend Continues

We may still be below normal, but partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 40s should still feel good today. Just a few clouds will build in overnight with lows around 30 degrees.

Some cloud cover will stick around on Friday, but highs will still warm into the upper 40s and low 50s. Saturday will be the warmest day of the week, in the mid 50s. Cloud cover will increase this weekend as a low pressure system moves through. This will add a chance of rain late Saturday night into Easter Sunday morning.

We should dry out by the end of the weekend, but a secondary cold front could bring a chance of wintry mix and cooler temperatures early Monday. Low 40s are expected for highs through Tuesday. Midweek sunshine will help warm temperatures on Wednesday. Highs will reach the upper 40s and low 50s through Thursday. Friday could see highs in the mid to upper 50s.

Quiet Midweek

A mix of sun and clouds will move in for our Wednesday. Look for highs to warm slightly into the upper 30s and low 40s. The warm up continues as partly cloudy skies bring mid 40s on Thursday and upper 40s and low 50s on Friday. Saturday looks to be the warmest day of the week, reaching highs in the mid 50s. Cloud cover will increase this weekend though, as a low pressure system moves through to our north. This could bring us a chance of showers late Saturday into Sunday morning. While you may need an umbrella for Easter morning, we should dry out by the afternoon. We should stay dry into the beginning of next week with slightly cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. More cloud cover and a slight chance of rain will move in with a low pressure system Wednesday night into Thursday.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Cloudy and Cool Again

We're still hanging out on the back side of the low pressure system from Sunday. This will keep cloud cover and cool northerly winds for our Tuesday. Expect highs to only reach the mid to upper 30s.

Some clearing is possible overnight, dropping lows into the mid 20s. High pressure slowly building in from the northwest will clear out our skies towards the end of the week. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the low 40s. Clear skies will warm us into the low 50s by Friday. Look for mid 50s with increasing cloud cover on Saturday. A low pressure system to the north will build in a chance of rain overnight Saturday into Sunday. We'll start off with some rain Easter morning, but dry out by the afternoon. Highs will still reach the low 50s. Next week will keep highs in the low 50s with sunshine early on.

Snow Ends And Spring Like Temps On The Way

Snow Ends And Spring Like Temps On The Way

Area wide snow fall totals ranged from 2" and upwards of a foot in some areas.
While greater totals remain in the south central Illinois, many areas still picked up on impressive totals.

Many records were broken, including Peoria. The old record was 3.7" in 1933 and so far the new preliminary record is ~8.8". The NWS is still updating snow fall totals before releasing an official report.

The next couple of days will be well below average with highs struggling to get out of the mid to upper 30's.

Also as the late winter storms tracks further to the east, it still has strong cyclonic flow with it; which will try to squeeze out a few flurries into the next 24-36 hours.

By Wednesday more sunshine returns and temps near 40° but the real warm up is at the end of the week and into the weekend.

Another Winter-Like Spring Day

Light snow and breezy winds will make travel very difficult today. Thankfully, we're not looking for much more accumulation. Highs today will only reach the low to mid 30s.

Cloud cover sticks around overnight as the snow finally moves out. Lows will drop back into the mid to upper 20s. Tuesday remains cloudy and cool with highs in the mid 30s. High pressure will bring sunshine for the middle of the week. Highs will warm into the mid 40s by Thursday and low 50s by Friday. A bit more cloud cover returns for the weekend with a large upper level trof of low pressure dropping some energy into central Illinois. A chance of precipitation builds in for Sunday, likely falling as rain with highs reaching the mid 50s. The sun returns for Monday of next week before another storm system moves in next Tuesday/Wednesday. Highs will stay in the low 50s for the beginning of next week.

A Tad Warmer

We're starting off cool again this morning, but a slightly warmer airmass will slide east today. Cloud cover will increase this afternoon, but highs will reach the low 40s. Mostly cloudy skies stick around overnight with lows in the mid 20s. A few peeks of sunshine are possible on Saturday, but we'll be otherwise cloudy with highs in the low to mid 40s. A low pressure system to our south will move east on Saturday night bringing a chance of wintry mix and snow into Sunday. A very wet, slushy snow will stick around through the end of the weekend. We could see totals as high as 2-5", but the track of the low pressure system is still up in the air and these could change in the next few days. Flurries will linger into early next week, with cooler temperatures in the upper 30s.The middle of next week will bring back the sunshine and warm highs into the mid to upper 40s. Those conditions should last us through the end of the week.

Sunny, but Still Cool

High pressure moving through will keep us sunny today. Still, winds out of the north will keep highs in the low to mid 30s.

Clear skies and calm winds will drop overnight lows into the upper teens and low 20s. Cloud cover will increase on Friday with an unsettled upper level weather pattern. Temperatures will increase into the low 40s by the early weekend. A low pressure system edging toward central Illinois will keep us cloudy Saturday and bring a chance of snow on Saturday night. Wintry mix and snow will last us into Sunday causing wet, slushy snow to accumulate.

A few flurries will stick around on Monday with temperatures cooling into the upper 30s. The middle of next week will bring back the sunshine and warm highs into the mid to upper 40s by the end of the week.

Chilly Start to Spring

It may be the first day of Spring, but it doesn't feel like it. Wind chill values are dropping into the single digits this morning and with strong northwesterly winds, highs will only reach the upper 20s this afternoon. Cloud cover will move in for the afternoon and evening, before moving east overnight. Lows will drop back into the mid teens. Thursday is looking sunny and slightly warmer in the mid 30s. Temperatures will likely reach the low to mid 40s through the weekend. But cloud cover will begin increasing on Friday, really kicking in by Saturday. A low pressure system will move through to our south into Sunday, bringing a chance of wintry mix to the area. We could see a chance of precip as early as Saturday night, lasting all the way into Monday. Skies will clear behind that system, but temperatures remain cool in the upper 30s and low 40s through much of next week.

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Unseasonably Chilly

Wind chill values are starting off in the single digits this morning. Winds will stay strong through the day, counteracting sunshine and keeping highs in the upper 30s. Cloud cover will increase overnight as a quick wave of energy slides through. Lows will drop back into the upper teens. A few clouds will stick around on Wednesday as a blast of cold air slides in from the north. Highs for the first day of Spring will only reach the upper 20s and low 30s. Sunshine on Thursday will warm highs into the low to mid 30s, with low to mid 40s possible on Friday. The weekend is looking at 40s, but clouds will increase as a low pressure system passes to our south. A chance of wintry mix will accompany that system Sunday and Monday of next week. Skies will clear for the middle of next week, but temperatures will be stuck below normal.

Wintry Mix is Back!

A quick low pressure system will bring a chance of wintry mix by late this morning. Southerly winds will warm temperatures in the low 40s this afternoon and change the mix to rain.

We'll begin drying things out this evening with clearing possible overnight. Lows will drop into the upper 20s and low 30s. Cloud cover rolls right back in Friday morning, but southerly winds will continue the warm up into the low to mid 50s. Another quick, weak low pressure system will pass through late Friday night bringing back a chance of wintry mix.

The weekend is looking dry, but cloudy with cooler highs in the mid 40s. St. Patrick's Day could see a few sprinkles, but better chances for rain will come Sunday night and Monday of next week. A cold front and wave of upper level energy passing through will keep showers and wintry mix chances into early Tuesday. Skies will clear by Tuesday afternoon with highs in the low 40s for the middle of next week. Another storm system looks to be pulling in at the end of next week, carrying rain chances into Thursday and Friday.

Gradual Clearing, Still Cool

It's a cloudy and blustery start to our Wednesday morning with a few flurries sticking around from last night. High pressure moving in will gradually clear out our skies this afternoon, but highs will stay cool in the mid 30s.

Just a few clouds are expected overnight, dropping lows into the mid 20s. Cloud cover returns on Thursday as a week low pressure system moves in. This will bring a slight chance of rain and wintry mix by the late morning. Temperatures will warm into the afternoon though, reaching highs in the mid 40s.

Friday will bring peeks of sunshine and warmer highs in the mid 50s. A cold front late Friday into Saturday will bring another chance of wintry mix. An unsettled upper level weather pattern will keep cloud cover and a slight chance of rain this weekend. Highs will only reach the mid 40s. A low pressure system will slide through Sunday night into Monday, bringing a better chance of showers to the area. A cold front Monday night could turn the rain to wintry mix into early Tuesday, before we clear things out Tuesday afternoon. Next Wednesday and Thursday are looking cloudy though, with rain chances back by the end of the week. Temperatures are expected around or just below normal in the mid to upper 40s for most of next week.

Showers Come To An End Tonight

Showers Come To An End Tonight

The rain has been coming down all day today and we've picked up on some decent rain totals.

Most all areas have seen at least an inch of rain or more but some areas are seeing minor flooding in small streams/creeks.

Good news is the bulk of the rain is over. Light scattered showers are in the forecast tonight but for the most part, we'll start drying out.

As cooler air works its way in, there is a chance for some light snow but little to no accumulation is expected.

Monday will be mainly dry with the exception of a lingering snow/rain showers in the morning.
Temperatures will be much cooler tomorrow with highs in the upper 30s.

The rest of the week will be dry and temperatures start rebounding on Tuesday into the low 40s and progressively getting warmer through the week. Flirting with spring like temperatures next weekend and the chance for more rain on Sunday.

We're tracking a low pressure system moving in from the west with rain chances into the weekend. Cloud cover will increase overnight with a slight chance at rain into Saturday morning. The main line of showers will build in Saturday night into Sunday. Rain will continue through the end of the weekend before cold air mixes in a slight chance of wintry mix into early Monday. Temperatures will remain warm through the weekend with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. Next week will start off a bit cooler, but sunshine will help warm us into the mid 40s by the middle of the week.

Warming Trend Begins

After a cloudy start to the morning, sunshine will build in for the afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon will warm into the mid 30s.

Clear skies and calm winds overnight could bring some patchy fog to central Illinois. Lows will drop to the mid 20s. Plenty of sunshine and increasing southerly winds will warm Friday's highs into the low to mid 40s.

The weekend will see highs warm into the 50s! However, a low pressure system moving in from the west will increase cloud cover Saturday and bring in a chance of rain by Saturday night. Showers will continue into Sunday. A cold front late Sunday will bring in cool air, allowing some ice and snow to mix in early Monday.

We'll start off next week on a cooler note, with highs in the low 40s. Skies will clear out by Wednesday and Thursday, warming back into the upper 40s and low 50s by the end of next week.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Cool, Dry Wednesday

We're drying things out this Wednesday, but we're staying cool for the middle of the week. After a blustery, breezy morning in the mid 20s, cloudy skies will keep highs today in the low to mid 30s.

High pressure begins clearing us out and calming things down overnight. Lows will drop back into the upper teens and low 20s. Thursday and Friday will bring plenty of sunshine and warming temperatures. Highs will reach the low 40s by the end of the work week.

The weekend is looking even warmer with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. A storm system moving in will increase cloud cover Saturday and bring a chance of rain by Saturday night. Showers will stick around into Sunday and Monday of next week. We could see some snow and ice mixing in Monday night into early Tuesday as cooler air filters in behind this system. The middle of next week will bring clearing and mild temperatures in the 40s.

Winter Weather Advisory

A winter storm system is moving through central Illinois today. A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect in our northern tier of counties with a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY every where else until midnight tonight. In the warning area, 4-6" of widespread snowfall is expected with higher amounts locally. The advisory area will likely see 3-5", slightly less in the south. Breezy winds will limit visibilities, gusting as high as 30 mph. Snowfall will decrease in intensity tonight, tapering off into Wednesday morning. Lows will fall into the low to mid 20s. Wednesday is looking partly to mostly cloudy with highs in the low 30s. The end of the week will bring sunshine and highs in the mid 40s by Friday. We could see highs near 50 on Saturday and Sunday but more cloud cover is expected this weekend. Rain is likely Sunday and Monday of next week. Cooler air is expected behind this system, dropping highs into the mid to upper 30s by the middle of next week.

Late Season Winter Storm Arrives Tuesday

ACTIVE PATTERN CONTINUES

3rd snowfall in the past 11 days moves into the area Tuesday, as two systems merge just to our west.  While there are still some questions on precipitation type during the day for parts of the area, it looks likely that some accumulation is likely for most of central Illinois.

COMPLEX FORECAST

As we first mentioned late last week, a northern low pressure system will phase with a secondary low in the southern Plains early Tuesday morning.  The low looks to move almost directly over central Illinois, which gives many in our area a little bit of everything.  Heaviest snow amounts will be north of the low, which will see all snow.  Areas along the track will see a range of rain, to freezing rain, to snow.  Eventually all areas will see the change to snow by mid afternoon as colder air moves in behind the storm.

ANOTHER WET AND HEAVY SNOW

Expect initial bands of precipitation to begin during pre dawn hours of Tuesday morning in a scattered fashion.  More widespread precipitation will fill in just in time for the morning drive.  Areas along and south of the I-74 may see mostly rain during this time, while areas north of I-74 may see a mix of rain and snow.  Areas along I-80 will see mostly snow for the morning to mid day time period.

Plenty of moisture will be available with this storm.  4 model average around 0.6" of liquid in Peoria.  The average among 6 different computer models is 4.4" for Peoria, with the low end 2.5", and the high  end at 6.0"

Amounts will be much higher to the north where this will be a mainly snow event.   Based on this, the National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for counties along the I-80 corridor, while everyone else in a Winter Weather Advisory.

From the 18z GFS Model:

Peoria 3.6", Bloomington 3.6", Pontiac 5.5", Galesburg 4.5", Peru 8.1" Canton 2.7"

This is just one model of many that we look at, so is subject to change.  Be sure to check in Tuesday morning for updates.

Winter Storm Moving In

Another winter storm will move in later tonight, spreading wintry mix and snow across the area into Tuesday. We'll start off with a quick line of snow early this morning. Cloudy and breezy conditions will keep highs in the mid 30s this afternoon.

By the evening hours, a wintry mix of sleet, snow, and rain will build in from the west. Precipitation will continue overnight and into much of the day on Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to support sleet and snow as the main precipitation types tomorrow. Accumulations will be tricky with the mixed precipitation type. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect in the northwest and a WINTER STORM WATCH in the northeast until Tuesday evening. Totals could be as high as 4-6". Peoria will see 2-4" at the very most. The southern parts of our viewing area will see mostly sleet and rain. Expect breezy winds gusting as high as 30 mph.

We'll start drying things out on Wednesday, with sunshine moving in for the end of the week. Temperatures will warm quickly into the weekend. Highs will be near 50 degrees on Saturday! Another storm system will move in by Sunday, though, bringing rain chances back to the forecast. Showers with a few isolated thunderstorms are possible into Monday of next week. Thankfully, temperatures will be warm enough to support all rain.

Sunshine This Weekend

We're still seeing light snow on the back side of the low pressure from this week. It will slowly move south this afternoon allowing for some drying by tonight. Highs this afternoon will reach the low to mid 30s.

Skies will clear overnight with cooler lows in the upper teens and low 20s. High pressure on Saturday and Sunday will keep us sunny through the weekend. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 30s both days.

Temperatures will warm into next week as cloud cover rolls in with a low pressure system. A chance of wintry mix will build in from the northwest on Monday, lasting into Tuesday and Tuesday night. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid 30s, so accumulating snow is a definite possibility. Sunshine returns for the middle of next week, warming highs into the 40s by Thursday. We may even see a few 50s by next Friday. A low pressure system is developing on the west coast that could effect us later next weekend. We'll keep you posted on precip chances.
