Well it looks like another round of winter weather moves through tonight!
Main concerns for this system is sleet/snow, freezing rain and snow accumulations.
Here's a look at futurecast tonight at 11PM.
First the system will start off as rain but then by 11PM, switching over to a mix of rain/sleet.
With temperatures dropping to the low 20s tonight, the rain/sleet on the ground will freeze causing hazardous driving conditions.
As we head into the overnight Sunday, the system will be on its way out of the area. On the backside of the system is where things will switch to all snow as we head into 6AM Sunday.
Snow fall totals have been pretty challenging for this system as different model runs are having a hard time with agreement. The top map is the NAM (North American Model) and it's prediction for snow fall totals.
This particular model squeezes out less than 0.25" of snow across the region.
I believe the models are under-doing it by a good amount.
Other model runs show snow totals of about 1-2" across most of CI and around 3" more towards the northwest near Kewanne and Galesburg.
The good news is this system is a quick mover and will be out of the area by tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures tomorrow will be much cooler compared to the past couple of days in the mid 20s.
