Strong Storms Move In Tonight

A warm front pulling north today will keep a chance of scattered showers possible into the afternoon. Temperatures will warm into the low 60s this afternoon and into the mid to upper 60s by tonight. A few of the storms developing this afternoon and evening, but the best chance at severe weather comes overnight. A slow moving cold front begins to slide east into early Thursday. A line of storms will develop along the front and push through central Illinois very slowly tomorrow. Embedded storms within the main line could include damaging winds. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are not out of the question. The Storm Prediction Center has all of Illinois under a slight risk for tonight and tomorrow. Heavy rainfall is also a distinct possibility with these storms. 3-4" are possible in the northwest and 2-3" are possible in the southeast. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for much of the area until early Friday morning. Scattered showers will linger behind the front on Friday morning, with some wintry mix sneaking in. Much cooler mid to upper 40s will round out the work week. The weekend is looking dryer, with highs warming into the low 60s by Sunday. A low pressure system moving in early next week will bring the chance for rain back next Monday and Tuesday. We'll stay cloudy and cooler behind that system through the middle of next week.
