Heat Builds Tuesday, but Doesn't Stick Around

Very comfortable temperatures to wake up to for our Monday morning.  Many locations bottomed out in the upper 50's-the first time below 60° since June 26th.

Temperatures may not be quite as cool, but will remain comfortable as we head into Monday night.

Dry air will allow for a big time warm up on Tuesday, with highs surging over 90°

Next chance for rain will begin Wednesday afternoon as a disturbance passes through the state.

Warm and Dry Start to the Week

High pressure keeps us clear and dry today, with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Clear skies and calm winds overnight will drop lows into the upper 50s and low 60s. We’ll add a southerly component to our winds on Tuesday, driving highs into the low to mid 90s. A cold front sliding in from the north will increase cloud cover on Wednesday, adding on storm chances Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Temperatures behind this system will cool into the low to mid 80s through the weekend. Other than a few clouds on Sunday, we’ll likely stay dry into next week.

Cooler Temps and Storm Chances This Weekend

Partly cloudy skies and very warm temperatures are expected today. Look for highs to hit the mid to upper 90s. Increasing warmth and moisture will bump up instability this afternoon, popping up a few isolated storms. Still, most of us look to stay dry. Saturday will be warm and muggy, before a cold front pulls in at night. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop along the front and move southeast overnight. Depending on how early the storms get going, some could be strong to severe in our area. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threat. Behind the front, we’ll clear things out and cool things down on Sunday. Look for sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s through Monday. Much of next week will likely be partly cloudy and dry. Temperatures will hit the upper 80s through Saturday.

Hot End to the Week

Our upper level pattern begins to change today, bringing more cloud cover back to the area. Still, southerly winds will bump highs into the mid to upper 90s through Friday. 

A few isolated afternoon storms are possible on Friday, but most of us will stay dry through the end of the work week. 

On Saturday, a cold front slicing into the area will bring a good chance at showers and thunderstorms. They will likely move in on Saturday afternoon, lasting into Sunday morning. 
Skies will clear and temperatures will cool behind the front. Look for sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 80s through much of next week.

July Numbers are In

July will go down as one of the hottest we have ever seen here in central Illinois.  The mean, or average temperature (factoring in highs AND lows) for this past month came in at 82.4.

That ties for the 3rd hottest July ever in Peoria.  Our average high for the month was 94°, which is nearly 9° above average.  We closed the month out 1.35 of rain, which is 2.50" below normal for the month.
