New Year's Eve Snow

Light snow will move in by the late morning hours, lasting us through the afternoon and into the evening. Widespread totals will be less than an inch, but heavier amounts are possible in the south.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for McLean, DeWitt, Logan, Mason, Menard, Cass, and Schuyler counties from noon today until 6 am Tuesday. Use extra caution on the roadways, especially tonight with so many people out on New Year's Eve.

Temperatures are starting off in the 30s this morning, but as winds switch out of the north, we'll see them drop into the mid 20s this afternoon and into the low teens overnight.

Some clearing is possible on New Year's Day, but temperatures will stay chilly. Highs tomorrow will only reach the mid to upper teens. Tuesday night will be downright cold. Lows will drop back into the single digits. A quiet weather pattern builds in for the rest of the week with highs slowly warming into the mid 20s by Friday. Next weekend continues the warm up, bringing sunshine and highs in the low 30s. Early next week will warm us into the mid 30s.

Sunny by Sunday

After a cloudy Saturday with a few flurries, we'll start to clear things out overnight. Lows will drop all the way back into the low teens. Sunday will be sunny with highs in the upper 20s. Cloud cover increases Sunday night as a low pressure system approaches. This will bring a chance of snow to central Illinois on Monday. Light snow will move in from the southwest during the late morning/early afternoon hours. We could see snow continuing through the evening and into our New Year's Eve celebrations. As of right now, snow totals look to be less than an inch. However, if the track of the low pressure center moves north, we could see several inches in our area. Stay with WMBD 31 for updates. A few lingering flurries are possible on New Year's Day with much cooler highs in the low 20s through the middle of the week. Wednesday and Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy keeping lows below normal for this time of year. Sunshine returns next weekend warming temperatures into the mid to upper 20s.

Mid-Week Winter Storm

After a hazy and cloudy start to the morning, some afternoon sunshine and breezy southerly winds will warm highs into the upper 40s. Partly cloudy skies overnight allow lows to drop into the upper 20s and low 30s.

Cloud cover returns during the day on Wednesday, but highs will still reach the mid 40s. On Wednesday evening as a low pressure system builds in from the southwest, we'll work in a chance of rain.

Showers will continue overnight and into Thursday morning, before cool air on the backside of the system turns the precip to snow.

Snow chances continue through the day on Thursday. Accumulations will be around 1-2" in the northwestern half of the area, decreasing as you go southeast. Strong winds on the back side of the system will create blowing snow and limited visibilities. A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect for Henry, Bureau, and Putnam counties until Thursday afternoon. Take extra precautions if you're traveling for the holidays.

Skies will clear for Friday and the weekend with chilly lows in the teens and highs in the low 30s. A few clouds will return early next week but temperatures will warm slightly into the mid 30s by Christmas. We are tracking another potential storm system the day after Christmas that could bring snow back to the area.

Cloudy Start to the Week

After a grey and gloomy weekend, cloud cover sticks around again today. A quick wave of upper level energy will bring a slight chance at a few afternoon sprinkles keeping highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

We'll see some clearing overnight with lows in the upper 20s and low 30s. Tuesday will finally bring back the sun as southerly winds warm us into the upper 40s. Wednesday will see above average highs in the mid to upper 40s but a low pressure system moving in will bring big changes by the end of the week. We'll start with a good chance of rain on Wednesday night.

As a cold front pushes through overnight, cold air will help switch precipitation to snow. Scattered snow showers will continue on Thursday. Accumulations could be as high as 1-2". There is still some uncertainty as to the track of of the low pressure center, so keep with WMBD 31 weather for updates through the week.

Behind the storm system will clear things out into the weekend. Look for sunshine, but cool low 30s through the weekend. Our first look at Christmas is looking normal for this time of year. Next Tuesday will bring partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 30s.

Last Sunny, Warm Day

Sunshine and southerly winds will warm us well above normal again today. Highs this afternoon will hit the upper 40s and low 50s. Cloud cover will increase this evening as a low pressure system moves in to the area. A line of moderate to heavy showers will move in from the southwest after midnight, lasting us into Saturday morning. Scattered showers will continue through the afternoon, but highs will still reach the low 50s.

Sunday is looking dry and cloudy as temperatures cool into next week. Partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 30s and low 40s will stick around Monday through Wednesday. Our next chance at rain comes next Thursday with a low pressure system moving through. Temperatures will cool into the mid to upper 30s for the end of next week.

Clear Skies Continue

Temperatures were again mild for Thursday.  Skies will remain clear for the rest of the overnight.  This will be a perfect opportunity to check out the Geminid meteor shower this evening, which will peak late tonight into the overnight.

Sunny and Breezy Again Today

Strong southerly winds and sunshine continue our warm up today. Look for highs this afternoon to top out around 50 degrees.

Friday will start off sunny, with temperatures continuing to warm into the upper 40s and low 50s. By tomorrow night, cloud cover will move in from the west. Shower chances begin to develop after midnight lasting through the day on Saturday. Rain totals could be anywhere from a few tenths to upwards of a half an inch.

Sunday will bring dry but cloudy conditions and cooler temperatures. Highs will only reach the upper 30s into early next week. An unsettled upper level pattern with a series of weak low pressure systems moving through. Right now, it looks like we should stay dry for much of next week. However, highs will be closer to normal for this time of year, only reaching the mid to upper 30s.

Temps Continue to Warm

Pleasant temperatures returned to the area Wednesday afternoon.  Clear skies will continue into the evening and overnight.

Temperatures will dip back to the mid 20's overnight.  Winds will continue from the south between 10 to 15 mph.

Temperatures will continue to climb for the second half of the week, topping out around 10° above average for mid December.

Warming for the End of the Week

Breezy southerly winds and sunshine will start us on a warm up today. Highs will reach the low 40s this afternoon, with mid to upper 40s possible Thursday and Friday.

Tomorrow is looking sunny, but cloud cover will return by the end of the week. A low pressure system moving in from the southwest will bring a good chance at rain late Friday through the day on Saturday. Rain totals could be upwards of a half an inch.

Sunday will dry out with cooler upper 30s expected into early next week. Another weak low pressure system next Tuesday could bring a chance of precipitation. Temperatures could drop low enough to mix in some snow, but anything that does fall is not likely to accumulate. Highs next week will only reach the mid to upper 30s.

Chilly Tonight; Warmer Tomorrow

Late Tuesday night temperatures have slipped into the mid to upper 20's under mostly clear skies.

Clear skies will allow for another cold night across the area, with most communities falling to the lower 20's, with a few outlying areas dipping to the upper teens.

Warmer temperatures begin to build in the middle of the week.  Sunshine with a nice southwesterly flow will settle into the state for Wednesday, with highs topping out in the lower 40's

Temperatures will continue to warm for the rest of the week, moving into the mid to upper 40's for the end of the week.  Next precipitation chance moves in Saturday.  Temperatures will be warm enough to support an all rain event.
