Slight Warm Up for the End of the Week

QUIET EVENING:  Mostly clear skies with crisp overnight temperatures.  Lows in the upper 30's

WARMER THURSDAY:  Morning sunshine will be followed by afternoon clouds rolling into the region.  Highs should top out in the mid 60's

FRIDAY:  Mostly sunny conditions, with slightly cooler temperatures.  Highs near 60.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:  Clouds will be on the increase during the evening hours, with a slight chance for a stray shower before the end of the games.  Kick off temperatures should be in the mid to upper 50's, with temperatures dipping to around 50 for the drive home.

SEVERE STORMS SATURDAY:  Still very early, but a situation worth watching as we move into the weekend.  An upper level low will move into the area starting late Friday night, and push into the state by late Saturday.  A chance for strong to severe storms exists west of the Illinois River, stretching back into Iowa and northern Missouri.  Strong straight line winds with a tornado threat will be the main concerns.  Further updates will be needed as we move closer to the weekend.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAY:  The Illinois State Redbirds are at home against Youngstown State (1pm), and the Illinois Wesleyan Titans are at home against Carthage College (1:30pm).  Scattered showers & storms can be expected, with some severe storms possible.  Game time temps should be in the upper 60's.  University of Illinois Fighting Illini will head up to the "Big House" in Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on the University of Michigan (2:30pm).    Mostly cloudy conditions with the threat for scattered showers through much of the afternoon.  Game time temp should be in the mid to upper 50's.

Sunny, but Cool Wednesday

A cold front last night brought 0.10"-0.25" of rain to central Illinois. Breezy northwesterly winds behind the front will clear us out, but keep us cool today. Highs will only reach the mid 50s this afternoon. Clear skies overnight will drop lows into the mid 30s.

Southerly winds return for Thursday, warming highs back up into the mid 60s. Cloud cover will increase tomorrow as a cold front moves in from the northwest. We'll likely stay dry as it passes, but temperatures will drop a few degrees for Friday. A strong storm system will bring in warmer temperatures and plenty of moisture this weekend. Expect strong to possibly severe storms during the day on Saturday. Rain will move out on Sunday, but temperatures will stay on the warm side into early next week. After a dry Monday, rain chances return for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

RAIN TONIGHT:  Cold front will push through the region later this evening, bringing light showers to the area before midnight.  Eventually the rain and cloud cover will move out overnight, leaving us with chilly temps.  Lows anticipated to fall into the mid 30's.

SUN TOMORROW:  Sunshine will return, but temperatures will remain a good 10 degrees below average.  Highs top out in the mid 50's

THURSDAY & FRIDAY:  Partly cloudy with slightly warmer temperatures.  Highs should jump back to the mid 60's

SEVERE STORMS SATURDAY?:  Still very early, but keeping a careful eye on a potent system that will be worth watching over the coming days that could bring a chance for severe storms for the start of the weekend.

Warm & Windy Tuesday

Breezy winds out of the south continue tonight. Lows will only drop back into the upper 30s and low 40s. Some morning sunshine and strong breezes tomorrow will warm us up even more. Highs tomorrow will reach the mid to upper 60s.

A cold front on Tuesday night will bring our next chance of rain. Showers and thunderstorms will begin around 4 or 5 o'clock in the west, spreading east into the evening.

Most of central Illinois will be dry by midnight. High pressure will clear us out on Wednesday, but keep highs limited to the mid to upper 50s. Thursday and Friday will be a bit warmer. Look for partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 60s. A low pressure system will gradually move from the Pacific across the US during the work week. By next weekend, southerly winds with that system will bring in quite a bit of warmth and moisture. This will bump highs near 70 degrees on Saturday, but will also bring in a solid chance of showers and storms through Sunday.

TODAY: Mostly clear and windy, gusting up to 20-25 mph. Highs in upper 50s.

TOMORROW: Mostly clear afternoon. Highs near 64°. Clouds increase through evening. Showers possible overnight. Lows in upper 30s.
