Warming Trend Begins

After a cloudy start to the morning, sunshine will build in for the afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon will warm into the mid 30s.

Clear skies and calm winds overnight could bring some patchy fog to central Illinois. Lows will drop to the mid 20s. Plenty of sunshine and increasing southerly winds will warm Friday's highs into the low to mid 40s.

The weekend will see highs warm into the 50s! However, a low pressure system moving in from the west will increase cloud cover Saturday and bring in a chance of rain by Saturday night. Showers will continue into Sunday. A cold front late Sunday will bring in cool air, allowing some ice and snow to mix in early Monday.

We'll start off next week on a cooler note, with highs in the low 40s. Skies will clear out by Wednesday and Thursday, warming back into the upper 40s and low 50s by the end of next week.

Cool, Dry Wednesday

We're drying things out this Wednesday, but we're staying cool for the middle of the week. After a blustery, breezy morning in the mid 20s, cloudy skies will keep highs today in the low to mid 30s.

High pressure begins clearing us out and calming things down overnight. Lows will drop back into the upper teens and low 20s. Thursday and Friday will bring plenty of sunshine and warming temperatures. Highs will reach the low 40s by the end of the work week.

The weekend is looking even warmer with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. A storm system moving in will increase cloud cover Saturday and bring a chance of rain by Saturday night. Showers will stick around into Sunday and Monday of next week. We could see some snow and ice mixing in Monday night into early Tuesday as cooler air filters in behind this system. The middle of next week will bring clearing and mild temperatures in the 40s.

Winter Weather Advisory

A winter storm system is moving through central Illinois today. A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect in our northern tier of counties with a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY every where else until midnight tonight. In the warning area, 4-6" of widespread snowfall is expected with higher amounts locally. The advisory area will likely see 3-5", slightly less in the south. Breezy winds will limit visibilities, gusting as high as 30 mph. Snowfall will decrease in intensity tonight, tapering off into Wednesday morning. Lows will fall into the low to mid 20s. Wednesday is looking partly to mostly cloudy with highs in the low 30s. The end of the week will bring sunshine and highs in the mid 40s by Friday. We could see highs near 50 on Saturday and Sunday but more cloud cover is expected this weekend. Rain is likely Sunday and Monday of next week. Cooler air is expected behind this system, dropping highs into the mid to upper 30s by the middle of next week.

Late Season Winter Storm Arrives Tuesday

ACTIVE PATTERN CONTINUES

3rd snowfall in the past 11 days moves into the area Tuesday, as two systems merge just to our west.  While there are still some questions on precipitation type during the day for parts of the area, it looks likely that some accumulation is likely for most of central Illinois.

COMPLEX FORECAST

As we first mentioned late last week, a northern low pressure system will phase with a secondary low in the southern Plains early Tuesday morning.  The low looks to move almost directly over central Illinois, which gives many in our area a little bit of everything.  Heaviest snow amounts will be north of the low, which will see all snow.  Areas along the track will see a range of rain, to freezing rain, to snow.  Eventually all areas will see the change to snow by mid afternoon as colder air moves in behind the storm.

ANOTHER WET AND HEAVY SNOW

Expect initial bands of precipitation to begin during pre dawn hours of Tuesday morning in a scattered fashion.  More widespread precipitation will fill in just in time for the morning drive.  Areas along and south of the I-74 may see mostly rain during this time, while areas north of I-74 may see a mix of rain and snow.  Areas along I-80 will see mostly snow for the morning to mid day time period.

Plenty of moisture will be available with this storm.  4 model average around 0.6" of liquid in Peoria.  The average among 6 different computer models is 4.4" for Peoria, with the low end 2.5", and the high  end at 6.0"

Amounts will be much higher to the north where this will be a mainly snow event.   Based on this, the National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for counties along the I-80 corridor, while everyone else in a Winter Weather Advisory.

Another winter storm will move in later tonight, spreading wintry mix and snow across the area into Tuesday. We'll start off with a quick line of snow early this morning. Cloudy and breezy conditions will keep highs in the mid 30s this afternoon.

By the evening hours, a wintry mix of sleet, snow, and rain will build in from the west. Precipitation will continue overnight and into much of the day on Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to support sleet and snow as the main precipitation types tomorrow. Accumulations will be tricky with the mixed precipitation type. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect in the northwest and a WINTER STORM WATCH in the northeast until Tuesday evening. Totals could be as high as 4-6". Peoria will see 2-4" at the very most. The southern parts of our viewing area will see mostly sleet and rain. Expect breezy winds gusting as high as 30 mph.

We'll start drying things out on Wednesday, with sunshine moving in for the end of the week. Temperatures will warm quickly into the weekend. Highs will be near 50 degrees on Saturday! Another storm system will move in by Sunday, though, bringing rain chances back to the forecast. Showers with a few isolated thunderstorms are possible into Monday of next week. Thankfully, temperatures will be warm enough to support all rain.

TOMORROW: Quick/Light round of snow early morning and continues mid afternoon through overnight. High 31°/ Low 30°. Snow accumulation near 1-3" for most w/ heavier amounts towards Chicago.

TUESDAY: Light snow shwoers continue through the day. Additional .25 - .5" snow accumulation.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Temperatures still below average. High 34°/ Low 22°.

Sunshine This Weekend

We're still seeing light snow on the back side of the low pressure from this week. It will slowly move south this afternoon allowing for some drying by tonight. Highs this afternoon will reach the low to mid 30s.

Skies will clear overnight with cooler lows in the upper teens and low 20s. High pressure on Saturday and Sunday will keep us sunny through the weekend. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 30s both days.

Temperatures will warm into next week as cloud cover rolls in with a low pressure system. A chance of wintry mix will build in from the northwest on Monday, lasting into Tuesday and Tuesday night. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid 30s, so accumulating snow is a definite possibility. Sunshine returns for the middle of next week, warming highs into the 40s by Thursday. We may even see a few 50s by next Friday. A low pressure system is developing on the west coast that could effect us later next weekend. We'll keep you posted on precip chances.
